Apache Corp. said Wednesday its gas processing plant on Varanus Island off the coast of Western Australia state was secure after an explosion but didn't give details on how long gas supplies would be interrupted.
On Tuesday, a pipeline rupture at the plant, about 100 kilometers west of Dampier, triggered an explosion and cut gas supplies.
Apache Energy Managing Director Tim Wall said the site was now secure, and the focus was on an analysis of the cause and impact of the incident and repair of the facility.
A fire that was still burning Wednesday has been extinguished.
The Varanus Island plant supplies about a third of Western Australia's gas, with most of its output going to commercial customers.
