Maersk Names New Semi 'Maersk Developer'

Maersk Contractors named the latest addition to the fleet, a Deepwater Development Semi-submersible drilling rig from Keppel FELS in Singapore.
Mrs. Kari Reinertsen, wife of Mr. Øivind Reinertsen, President of Statoil Gulf of Mexico LLC honored Maersk Contractors and the yard by naming the newbuilding MÆRSK DEVELOPER.

The new rig is the first in a series of three highly advanced Deepwater Development Semi-submersibles
presently under construction for Maersk Contractors in Singapore. Albeit being optimized for field development work, the new design is also a very cost effective exploration unit. It is capable of drilling 10,000 m (30,000 ft) wells in up to 3,000 m (10,000 ft) water depth. This makes the rig particularly well suited to drill deep and complicated wells in areas such as offshore West Africa, Brazil, the Gulf of Mexico and Southeast Asia. A total of 180 people can be accommodated onboard.

The initial program for MÆRSK DEVELOPER is for Statoil Gulf of Mexico LLC for drilling in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico with further assignment rights to Woodside Energy (USA) Inc. The contract has a duration of four years with commencement upon arrival of the rig in the fourth quarter of 2008.
