Petroleos Mexicanos would not be privatized
The energy reform in Mexico has been approved this week by Congress. It is expected to be the most significant one since 1938, when the oil industry in Mexico was nationalized.
From now on Petroleos Mexicanos (PEMEX) belongs to the nation, and not to the state.
The Mexican President Felipe Calderon believes that with this reform Mexico will regain its position as an oil power again.
