Naftogaz Ukrainy and Gazprom held a new round of negotiations on natural gas deliveries to Ukraine
Naftogaz head Oleg Dubinin and Gazprom CEO Alexey Miller met yesterday in Moscow. Kommersant paper reported that before the meeting Dubinin stated the parties were to talk about a contract with a fixed price for three years.
That step is worth it to Gazprom because the contract is for ten years, which means it will remain the intermediary for Central Asian gas purchases by Ukraine through 2019.
"Agreements were reached that at least 55 billion cubic meters of natural gas will be supplied to Ukraine in 2009," Gazprom said in a statement. Ukraine has imported around 55 billion cubic meters of gas annually in the past few years.
