Venezuelan Isla Refinery in Full Capacity Soon

Bloomberg reported that the 360,000 barrel-a-day facility should restart “over Christmas,” Alan Wilson, managing director of Curacao Utilities Co., said today in a telephone interview.

The refinery is receiving a “substantial” supply of power and steam after a blackout caused the plant to shut down on Dec. 19, he said.

The shutdown was at least the second time this year that the refinery went offline because of a lack of steam and power. Wilson said he didn’t have details on which units were still out of service and that the plant is in “recovery mode.”

Petroleos de Venezuela, the state oil company known as PDVSA, declined to comment through a spokesman. He asked not to be identified, citing company policy.
