PDVSA Takes Desolated Ensco Oil Rig

Petroleos de Venezuela SA has taken control of an off-shore oil rig owned by Ensco after the oil-rig company ceased operations

PDVSA Takes Desolated Ensco Oil Rig

"The Ensco 96 rig, deployed to oil-pumping operations in the Paria Gulf, " paralyzed operations and abandoned its contractual obligations," PDVSA said in a statement.

Ensco chose to stop operations even as it negotiated "terms and conditions to pay off pending debts," the note added.

PDVSA said Ensco refused to accept several settlement proposals presented by Petrosucre, a joint venture company controlled by PDVSA.

Ensco officials could not immediately comment on the matter.

Ensco's sole oil rig in Venezuela is located in the Corocoro field, formerly an area controlled by U.S. oil company ConocoPhillips, before it left Venezuela in 2007.
