Poland Thinks Over Suing RosUkrEnergo On Gas Non-Delivery

The Polish oil and gas company PGNiG is considering suing RosUkrEnergo over its failure to fulfill its obligations, a PGNiG spokesperson said on Monday

Poland Thinks Over Suing RosUkrEnergo On Gas Non-Delivery

PGNiG said Poland was still not receiving natural gas via Ukraine.

A spokeswoman for PGNiG earlier said however that Poland was only receiving half the contracted volumes of Russian natural gas via Ukraine.

Joanna Zakrzewska previously said that only 50% of agreed Russian gas supplies, transited via Ukraine to Europe, had reached Poland. Under the contract with the Swiss-registered gas trader RosUkrEnergo, Poland should receive 14 million cubic meters of gas daily, and she claimed Poland was receiving 7 million cu m.

Poland annually consumes some 14 billion cu m of natural gas, with 6.2 bcm imported from Russia. The country produces another 4.2 bcm itself and transits 30 bcm of gas to Germany.

RosUkrEnergo has declined to comment on the situation.

Russian gas transit to Europe through Ukraine stopped on January 7 over a row between Moscow and Kiev over a lack of a 2009 gas contract. Transit resumed on January 20 after a deal was reached in Moscow.
