Opec member Kuwait has appointed former health minister Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah as its new oil minister
Sheikh Ahmad, a member of the ruling family, will be Kuwait's first permanent oil minister since Mohammad Al-Olaim resigned in November along with the rest of the government.
Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammad Al-Salem Al-Sabah had been acting oil minister since a new cabinet was unveiled last month.
Sheikh Ahmad is expected to restore confidence among investors after Kuwait cancelled a $17 billion project with Dow Chemical in December after receiving opposition from MPs, less than a month after signing the deal.
The new oil minister will also have to decide on the fate of the refinery which has been put on hold after parliament launched an investigation, and a multi-billion tender to upgrade two refineries which has also been delayed.
