The project will be financed by state company Turkmengaz. Its cost is estimated as $176.7 million.
The planned domestic pipeline will connect planned gas fields in the Karakum desert, which could hold up to 2 billion cubic metres of gas according to earlier official estimates, to a station pumping gas into the main export pipeline to Russia.
Turkmenistan, Central Asia's largest gas producer, sells most of its gas to Russia's Gazprom, but is also building a new link to China and considering other options.
