Total Starts Up Nigerian Field

Production began "ahead of the planned start-up date," the company reported. Gas plateau is expected to be reached during summer 2009.

The field was discovered in 2000 and is located 200 kilometres south of Port Harcourt at a depth of between 1,200 metres and 1,400 metres.

Total's Nigerian subsidiary has a 24-percent stake in the field, which is also run by NNPC (Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation), Sapetro (South Atlantic Petroleum) of Nigeria, CNOOC of China and Petrobras of Brazil.
