The Ukraine government said today it wanted to resume transit of Kazakh oil across its territory to Europe, suspended last month in a dispute over transit prices. Kazakh state oil pipeline company KazTransOil last month said the Caspian nation, a key Russian ally in Central Asia, would re-route Europe-bound supplies to Poland to bypass Ukraine altogether.
Ukraine's First Deputy Prime Minister Andriy Klyuev told Interfax Ukraine news agency he had urged the Fuel and Energy Ministry to clarify the situation and return the transit. Ukraine was scheduled to ship 11.06 million barrels of Kazakh crude to Slovakia and Hungary in the first quarter.
