Moratorium on Kazakh subsoils should be lifted

The government of Kazakhstan has proposed lifting its moratorium on subsoils, Kazakhstan Deputy Prime Minister of Industry and New Technologies Aset Isekeshev said. "We think that as far as minerals and raw material resources and those projects which need funding are concerned, we will ask the head of the government to lift the moratorium (on issuing subsoil use licenses)", Isekeshev said Monday during government hour in parliament.

He explained, that he meant not simply lifting the moratorium, but lifting it "for specific sectors of the industrialization program". "If there is a good project and an investor is building a project with high level of processing and it is good for the country and the sector, then the government will help", Isekeshev promised.

"If the investor takes a field and does not do anything, then, as the head of the government said, such actions will not be taken, they will be forbidden...It is clear that fields are not being handed out left and right now, but only in order to achieve industrialization".
