By mid-2011, Syria will begin receiving imported Azerbaijani gas, 1news.az reports. Syrian Oil Minister Sufian al-Allao said pipelines between Turkey and Syria are currently being linked before Azerbaijani gas begins arriving in the country. "From Syria, Azerbaijani gas can be delivered to other Arab countries, and even to Europe by way of the Mediterranean coast", he said.
Al-Allao also noted interest in transiting Azerbaijani gas and said documents on the matter have already been signed. In the initial stages, 1 billion cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas will be imported to Syria a year.
