The European Commission has passed a decision on August 13 on the European Union financing a project to raise the throughput capacity on a gas pipeline between Lithuania and Latvia, the gas transport company Lietuvos dujos reported in a news release.
At the beginning of March 2010, the European Commission agreed to allocate 12.9 million euros for the joint project between Latvijas Gaze and Leituvos dujos. The funds being allocated by the European Union comprise 50 percent of the investment, with the rest to come from funds from Lietuvos dujos and Latvijas Gаze.
work on renovating the Lietuvos dujos system with funds from the EU is to begin in the end of 2013, BaltInfo reports.
