The Gazprom headquarters hosted today a working meeting between Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Company's Management Committee and Dipu Moni, Foreign Minister of the People's Republic of Bangladesh.

The meeting participants considered the prospects for bilateral cooperation in the energy sector and topical issues of the world energy market development.

In particular, consideration was given to the opportunities for interaction in such areas as oil and gas fields development and gas infrastructure creation in Bangladesh.

The parties stressed that Gazprom and Bangladesh Oil, Gas and Mineral Corporation Petrobangla had everything needed to initiate long-term and mutually beneficial cooperation.

The bulk of the country's proven natural gas reserves, amounting to some 360 billion cubic meters, are concentrated in the eastern part of in Bangladesh within the Chattak, Bibiana, Titas and Jalalabad fields. Annually extracted 20 billion cubic meters of natural gas are consumed domestically. The national energy mix is structured as follows: natural gas – 77.4 per cent, oil – 19.7 per cent, coal – 1.5 per cent, hydro power – 1.4 per cent. Nearly 80 per cent of the extracted gas is used to produce power and fertilizer.
