PGNiG chief expects to win an arbitration case against Gazprom and plans to buy gas deposits in Norway

Poland's PGNiG, plans to buy gas deposits in Norway, the company's CEO Piotr Wozniak said on September 8, 2016.

Piotr Wozniak told that PGNiG wants to increase its gas output in Norway to 2.0-2.5 billion cubic metres annually by 2022.

In 2015 PGNiG's gas output in Norway stood at 573 million cubic metres, while it Poland it amounted to 1.5 bcm.

PGNiG buys most of the gas for distribution from Gazprom. The long-term gas supplies contract with Gazprom ends in 2022 and by that time Poland wants to secure gas supplies from other sources, mostly from Norway and through LNG terminal.

PGNiG filed a lawsuit against Gazprom over gas prices last February, following its 2014 call for the energy giant to revise its gas price deal in line with recent gas market trends.

The Polish company says Gazprom should adjust the contract to reflect the situation on the European gas market.

«We expect to win in arbitration,» said PGNiG chief Piotr Woźniak, adding that a decision in the case is expected in summer 2017.
