Turkmenistan to discuss questions of participation of Qatar in the TAPI project

Turkmenistan shows interest in discussion of the questions connected with participation of financial and investment structures of Qatar in implementation of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline. It was declared by the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov at the negotiations with the Emir of Qatar the sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Tani held in Doha during the state visit on March 16, 2017.

The President of Turkmenistan also paid attention that Qatar was one of world leaders on export of LNG.

In this regard the Turkmen leader noted that experience of Qatar in this sphere would be very useful also to our dynamically developing economy.

Promptly globalized gas market causes the need for adjustment of cooperation between the largest gas exporters, - Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov declared.

As earlier it was reported, Ashgabat considered 3 main directions of participation of foreign investors in the TAPI project: through trade - providing with pipe products and the equipment; through financing – provision of credit facilities; through investment – with prospect for investors to join in development of the most large-scale gas deposit on the land of Turkmenistan - field Galkynysh - and participation in consortium TAPI.

In December, 2015 the construction of the Turkmen section of the pipeline of TAPI 214 kilometers long began.

Now construction works on the site are conducted according to the schedule.

In February, 2017 prospecting works on the Afghan and Pakistani sites began.

The development contract of a packet of the preproject documentation and rendering services in project management and technical supervision for sites in Afghanistan and Pakistan was signed in January,

2017 in Ashgabat between consortium TAPI Pipeline Limited and the ILF Beratende Ingenieure GmbH (Germany).

Total length of the pipeline is 1814 kilometers, including 774 kilometers - on the territory of Afghanistan, and 826 kilometers - Pakistan to the settlement of Fazilk on border with India.

It is planned to put into operation the gas pipeline of annual capacity of 33 billion cubic meters of gas by the end of 2019.

In 2016 the government of Turkmenistan submitted the application for receipt of 700 million US dollars from IDB for financing of a part of expenses on the TAPI project.

Earlier ADB, IDB, the Saudi fund of development and the government of Japan, the French CIFAL declared intention to participate in financing of a construction of TAPI.
