Gazprom interested in Bolivia hydrocarbon areas

Bolivian hydrocarbons minister Luis Sánchez reported on May 28, 2017, that Gazprom is interested in exploring 2 new hydrocarbon areas in Vitiacua and La Ceiba.

Gazprom signed a study agreement in 2016 and now plans to consolidate 2 other exploration and exploitation agreements.

The Russian transnational, one of the most important in the world's gas industry, seeks to strengthen ties with Bolivia in the long term to commit to greater investments, noted the minister.

According to Sánchez, at the International Economic Forum of St. Petersburg, to be held next month, Gazprom will define the regions in which it has the greatest interest and a memorandum will be signed to carry out activities in these areas.

Bolivia hopes to finalize the service agreements in the event of gas exporting countries that will take place in November 2017 in the Bolivian department of Santa Cruz, in which is expected the participation of President Evo Morales and his partner, Vladimir Putin.

It is important that Gazprom be an operator in Bolivia because it is a guarantee of investments to be successful in increasing production, stressed Sánchez.

In addition, the Russian state intends to participate in the exploratory actions of the San Telmo Sur, Astillero and Iñiguazu fields and to be operators in the Azero area.
