Greek government launched 2 tenders for offshore oil & gas exploration

The Greece energy ministry launched 2 tenders on August 7, 2017, for offshore oil and gas exploration and exploitation in the west and south of the country.

The government has invited international companies to bid for the right to explore and produce oil and gas in the Ionian Sea and Crete areas.

Greece has invited companies to compete for offshore blocks in a pair of exploration and production tenders, not long after ExxonMobil and Total were approved for acreage in the country.

The announcement follows recent applications submitted by Total - ExxonMobil- Hellenic Petroleum, interested in the offshore areas southwest and west of Crete, and by Energean Oil & Gas, for a marine area in western Greece (Ionian Sea).

Greece has invited the interested parties to submit their bids within 90 days of the date of publication of the Notice of Invitation to Tender in the Official Journal of the European Union.
