Shah Deniz celebrates 100 billion m3 of total gas production

Baku, January 9 - Neftegaz.RU. 12 years on from start-up, BP has pumped 100 billion m3 of gas from Shah Deniz. Stage one got up and running on December 15, 2006, with production delivered to Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey.

Shah Deniz, located in the Azerbaijan sector of the Caspian Sea, is the largest ever gas discovery made by BP. The giant field covers approximately 860 s.km and was discovered in 1999. The estimation of gas initially in place of the whole Shah Deniz field is over 1 trillion cubic metres and 2 billion barrels of condensate.

2018 marked the commencement of commercial gas deliveries to Turkey from Shah Deniz 2 and the achievement of 1st gas production from Shah Deniz Bravo at the end of July. Total condensate production from Shah Deniz since 2006 is over 196 million barrels.

Shah Deniz 2 is the starting point of the new Southern Gas Corridor, which will deliver Caspian resources directly to European gas markets for the 1st time. At plateau, the project is expected to add 16 billion m3 of gas per year (bcma) to the existing production.

Shah Deniz 2 represents the 1st subsea field development in the Caspian Sea – the largest and most complex subsea infrastructure which BP operates in the world.

Elkhan Mamedov, VP offshore operations, said: «BP is proud to have achieved this remarkable milestone. Shah Deniz is a world-class and yet one of the most challenging reservoirs. Despite the complexities we have faced in developing this giant gas field, we have been able to demonstrate that we can drill the most challenging wells in one of the most complex basins, and build world-class infrastructure to directly connect the field with our markets.»
