Russia’s Novatek may invest in Cambodia’s LNG

Phnom Penh, January 28 - Neftegaz.RU. According to local media, Russia’s Novatek has expressed interest in investing in Cambodia’s Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), especially in the areas of supply, storage station construction and conversion.

Ministry of Mines and Energy secretary of state Dith Tina welcomed the news and advised the company to research social, economic and technical possibilities, as well as the nature of the Cambodian market, so that the project can be shaped.

General Department of Petroleum director-general Cheap Sour on January 27 said Novatek aims to study the Kingdom’s LNG market, adding that if the market is deemed adequate, the company will invest directly. «This is only the first meeting between the ministries and the company’s leaders,» he said.

Earlier Indonesia has eyed export of LNG to Cambodia to meet the demand for power plants in the country, Indonesia  Vice President Jusuf Kalla said on January 18.
