Turkmengas diversifies production of Kiyanly Polymer Plant

Ashgabat, May 29 - Neftegaz.RU. The Turkmen State Concern “Turkmengas” plans to diversify its production facilities at the Kiyanly Polymer Plant. In May, the concern announced a 2nd international tender for the construction of an isobutane production unit at this plant.

Turkmengas 1st announced a tender in March this year for construction work to diversify the use of natural gas at this enterprise.

The production facilities of this complex, commissioned in October 2018, allow to process 5 billion cu m of natural gas per year and produce 386 000 tons of high density polyethylene and 81 000 tons of polypropylene. After the extraction of ethane and propane from the natural gas used for the production of these products, the remaining 4.5 billion cu m of marketable gas are sent to the gas pipeline system.

The plant is equipped with equipment purchased in Japan, South Korea, the USA, Great Britain, Belgium, Germany, Denmark and other countries. It consists of 4 main technological units: gas separation, ethane processing, production of polyethylene and polypropylene.

The SC “Turkmengas” implemented a project to build a Kiyanly plant worth more than $ 3.4 billion in cooperation with LG International Corp and Hyundai Engineering (South Korea), as well as TOYO Engineering Corporation (Japan).

Currently, polyethylene and polypropylene produced at the plant are sold at the State Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange of Turkmenistan both for export and the domestic market.

According to the report of the analytical agency “Reports and Data” (USA), published in 2019, it is expected that by 2026 the global isobutane market will grow to $ 34 billion.
