Algiers, February 22 - Neftegaz.RU. Sonatrach has awarded a contract to the Chinese state-owned company Sinopec for the construction of a new LNG storage tank for the Skikda LNG facility.
The contract is worth $178 million, the project is expected to be completed in 40 months.
The storage tank with a capacity of 150,000 m3 will be constructed at the Skikda gas export terminal in eastern Algeria.
The project also includes the supply and installation of equipment for the connection of the future ferry to the new LNG loading system of the project in the progress of the new pier dedicated to the extension of the oil port of Skikda.
This will allow, according to Sonatrach, to ensure the removal and rotation of LNG ships dedicated to export.
The company has ambitions to consolidate its position as a regional leader in LNG production.
Sonatrach operates 4 LNG production facilities in Algeria, 3 at Arzew and 1 at Skikda, with a total capacity of 24.7 mtpa.
