Belarus expects that the price for Russian natural gas will drop in 2020, BelTA
learned from Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Igor Lyashenko. The official said: “We are talking about multilevel negotiations. The heads of state have determined the strategy
– equal prices within 2 years. We expect changes in favor of lower prices next year. We are negotiating for it. We've submitted our proposals.”
In his words, it has not been confirmed yet whether the price for natural gas will drop or not in 2020. Speaking about the possibility of resolving the debatable issues during the forthcoming session of the Council of Ministers of the Union State of Belarus
and Russia, Igor Lyashenko remarked that many issues had been discussed.
“The reference points we've argued about will be balanced at the level of the prime ministers. It is a normal process,” he added. Speaking about the development of roadmaps on oil and natural gas, Igor Lyashenko said Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Russia Vladimir Semashko oversees this work to a larger degree. The Energy Ministry and the Belarusian state petrochemical concern Belneftekhim
are also working on it.
“I see from the reports that the Russian side tries not to recognize all our proposals and agreements directly and tries to set some indirect conditions. We would like everything to happen the way the presidents have laid it out – the roadmaps need to be accepted with certain provisos. This is why work on the issues is in progress,” he concluded. In 2019 Belarus pays $127 per 1,000m3 of Russian natural gas.
