The meeting was also attended by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Iraq Maxim Maximov.
The parties discussed the progress of the West Qurna-2 project and Eridu field (Block-10), as well as prospects for cooperation in other areas in Iraq.
Prime Minister praised LUKOIL's operations in the Republic and spoke in favor of expanding cooperation and coordination between LUKOIL and the Iraqi Oil Ministry.
The West Qurna-2 field, located in the South of Iraq, is one of the largest in the world with initial recoverable reserves of around 12.9 boe. The contract area is about 300 sq. km. In 2010, LUKOIL signed a service contract and in 2014, began commercial oil production at the West Qurna-2 project and subsequently successfully implemented the first stage of field development.
Block 10 with an area of 5.8 thousand sq. km is located 120 km from the West Qurna-2 field. In 2016, the company discovered the Eridu field within the Block. This discovery is the largest in the Iraqi oil sector in the past 20 years.
