Alexey Miller and Moldova’s Prime Minister Ion Chicu review cooperation-related issues

Moscow, November 21 - Neftegaz.RU. A working meeting between Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee, and Ion Chicu, Prime Minister of of Moldova, took place on November 20 in Russia. The parties reviewed, among other things, issues related to cooperation in the gas sector from 2020 onward.

In 2018, Gazprom's gas deliveries to the Republic of Moldova totaled 2.9 billion cu m of gas, an increase of 8.4 % against 2017 (2.7 billion cu m). About 1.9 billion cu m of gas was exported between January and August 2019, which is about the same level as last year.

The contracts between Gazprom and Moldovagaz for gas supplies to and gas transit across Moldova are valid until the end of 2019. Moldovagaz is a joint Russian-Moldovan company set up by Gazprom, the Moldovan Government, and the Ministry of Industry of Transnistria.

Moldovagaz said last week that the 2 parties "have reached an agreement and are ready to sign, as soon as possible, the annexes to the supply agreement." The existing agreement between the 2 expires on December 31, 2019, the same date as the expiry of the transportation contract between Russia and Ukraine, which is under negotiation.

This new extension to the agreement between Moldovagaz and Gazprom will last until December 2022, but will not be signed until transportation arrangements are finalized.
