Georgia: the construction of Baku-Ceyhan pipeline, operated by BP, has been halted for two weeks after the environmental checking.
Georgian environmental authorities have halted construction on a section of the pipeline, which is considered to be an effort to reduce Western dependence on Middle Eastern oil.
Tamara Pirveli, a spokeswoman for the Georgian Environmental Protection Ministry, said construction was stopped because BP had not submitted an agreement guaranteeing environmental protections for a pipeline section passing through the mineral spring Borjomi.
Borjomi gorge, with its spa resorts and bottled water is one of Georgia's most widely known exports.
A BP representative told Prime-Tass that construction of the Georgian section of the pipeline was 60 percent finished when work was suspended.
