Rosneft will supply with up to 123 900 tonnes of fuel to the Arctic mining operations of Norilsk Nickel

Moscow, August 3 - Neftegaz.RU. The companies sent a joint letter to Russia’s Ministry of Natural Resources expressing Nornickel’s approval of Rosneft’s licensing terms for the Turkovsky area (incl. the Ushakovsky field), including the requirement that auction participants be actively engaged in projects to develop oil & gas deposits in the Arctic zone and that gas be transported through the Northeast Passage using Russian-made ice class vessels.

If this license is acquired, Rosneft will take on the role of delivering required gas volumes to Nornickel from Ushakovsky reserves once the field enters development.

As part of the agreement, Rosneft will supply up to 123,900 tonnes of petroleum products to mining and metallurgical enterprises in the Norilsk industrial region from October 2020 to April 2021.

The supplies will be transported through the Northeast Passage by Nornickel vessels with a correspondence through the facilities of Rosneft subsidiary Arkhangelsknefteprodukt. This terminal was selected to be a part of the logistics chain by the acting governor of Arkhangelsk region Alexander Tsybulsky.

The terms of cooperation between Rosneft and Nornickel will be stipulated in contracts that will require the parties to adhere to the highest standards of environmental safety.

This cooperation, amongst other advantages, will make it possible for Nornickel to free up a significant share of its local tank farm for a comprehensive survey, to modernise local infrastructure, and to implement necessary measures to improve the reliability of its fuel storage capabilities.
