Shadrin also stressed that Yukos is "one of the largest and most conscientious Russian taxpayers, and the tax authorities have never made any major complaints about our work. However, if, after examining our complaints, the Tax Ministry insists on us paying extra taxes, we will immediately challenge this decision in court".

Yukos Hunkers Down
Spokesman defends company's position in fight against Russian government...
Aleksandr Shadrin, a spokesman for Yukos, said the company has appealed to the Tax Ministry over a tax inspection.
In an interview with Echo Moskvy radio, Shadrin said: "We are demanding that the Tax Ministry decline to take the company to court for breaking tax law, which we have certainly not done. We believe that the conclusions of the inspection run contrary to all reasonable legislative norms, including the constitution, the Tax Code, and a number of legal points that have been repeatedly expressed by the Constitutional Court. We also believe that the inspection by the Tax Ministry is openly biased and accusatory."
