Shell and Chevron Continue JV Talks

Royal Dutch/Shell and ChevronTexaco are holding talks over a possible Nigerian joint venture involving two adjacent deepwater fields that share the same structure.

The joint project involves Shell's Bonga South West field, which lies in Oil Mining Lease (OML) 118 and Chevron's Aparo discovery, which covers nearby exploration blocks OPL 249 and OPL 213 -- both held by the USmajor.

Chevron indicated late last year that Aparo was part of the same structure as Shell's OML 118 and that as such, the two discoveries would likely be developed jointly due to Nigerian regulations regarding common structures.

"Negotiations to commence a joint subsurface and field development study have commenced with Chevron and are currently being pursued," Shell spokesman Simon Buerk said.
