Tatneft Drills With New Technology in Iran

Tatneft is drilling with a new oil well technology at its Kupal oil field in southwestern Iran. According to Tatneft's press service, the technology allows specialists to conduct drilling in problem areas without reducing the diameter of the oil well.

The main element of the new technology is a special steel column, which acts as a valve for a profiled pipe in the drilling process. The valve is lowered into the problem area and isolates it, which allows for continued drilling without reducing the diameter of the drill. The technology was developed by Tatnipineft and has already been used in developing oil wells in Tatarstan. This was the first time, however, the technology was used in Iran.

According to preliminary reviews, Tatneft's foreign partners highly valued the new technology. Tatneft officials say it is possible that the technology may be used by other companies operating in the Middle East.
