Shell's Nigeria LNG Facility Impresses

Lack of experience does not mean lack of gas...

Shell's Nigeria LNG Facility Impresses

The Bonny Non-Associated Gas (BNAG) plant supplied a record 50 billion standard cu. ft of gas to the Nigerian LNG facility - NLNG Train 3 - between January and September 2003.

The plant, soon after coming into operation, started giving all of that gas to the NLNG because of a shortfall in supply from other sources. "In fact, at a stage it supplied some 334 mmscf of gas per day. This high production made it possible to achieve the record in September," the Shell Nigeria magazine said.

"It means the plant has been supplying at 110 per cent of NLNG's allocated volume and we are happy that this was achieved without downtime or equipment outage. This is a plus for us at the terminal because the experience of running a gas plant is new," Bonny Terminal Manager Jonathan Okpozu said.

The publication said the smooth operation of the facility is testament to the "good job the BNAG team has been doing".

"It is planned to conduct a de-bottlenecking exercise on the plant from 2004. This will increase the capacity to 450 mmscf/d by 2005. Two additional gas wells will be drilled during this phase," the magazine said.

The publication said that a total of four gas well were drilled in the Oloma field in Bonny (one of SPDC's largest reservoirs of non-associated gas) in the implementation of the Bonny NAG project and the collected gas is sent through a dedicated pipeline to the processing plant at the Bonny Terminal.
