Halliburton Out. Kuwait In»

Kuwaiti Minister of Energy Sheikh Ahmad Fahad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah decided to allow the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) to compete for the Pentagon tender for the supply of oil products to US forces in Iraq. The pentagon will invite other international companies to participate in the bidding.

The company that wins the contract will supply oil products to the American forces stationed in Iraq, replacing Halliburton, whose contract was cancelled due to corruption charges.

Apart from KPC, private companies from Kuwait and Saudi Arabia will also be pitching for the tender.

Kuwait will be a strong contender in the region, but KPC may fall short on supplying the required quantity of oil products to Iraq, sources said.

"The US has been informed about the move. However, the real reason for Kuwait's shortcoming is the shortage of tankers with which to transport the products, aggravated by security threats." They added that the mission would be made easier if there were companies willing to provide KPC with tankers.
