The Yukos Ransom Offer

The Russian Prosecutor-General's Office will not respond to the proposal from Leonid Nevzlin, one of the co-owners of the Yukos oil company, to free other co-owners of the oil company from detention in exchange for letting the state have a section of Yukos shares.

"Nobody is getting ready to react to the proposal, which is absurd both from a legal point of view and from a moral point of view," a source in the Prosecutor-General's Office told Interfax.
