Russia Tortures Its Own

Residents of Russia's Kalingrad region are preparing for the worst. All gas-fired boiler houses in Kaliningrad are being converted to fuel oil as gas supplies via Belarus have been cut off. Hot water supply is being cut off in the city to save heat and keep homes and public institutions warm, the municipal enterprise Kaliningradteploset stated.

Aleksandr Pospelov, head of the region's gas department, confirmed that a gas-saving regime had been imposed. "We must provide a steady supply of gas to citizens' homes, while large facilities in this situation might fall back on reserve fuels," he said.

Natural gas is supplied to Kaliningrad Region via a main gas pipeline which runs through Belarus and Lithuania.
