In a company released statement, Marathon Oil stated that it had replaced 124% of its 2003 worldwide oil and gas production.
Reserve additions excluding acquisitions and dispositions were 106 million boe, resulting in a reserve replacement ratio of 76%. Of the reserve additions, approximately 62 million boe were international, equivalent to 113% of 2003 international production, and 44 million boe were added in the US, equivalent to 52% of 2003 US output.
At year-end, Marathon had estimated proved reserves of 1.042 billion boe, of which 70% was developed.
During 2003, Marathon sold 274 million boe of proved reserves as part of the company's successful plan to sell non-core assets and added 67 million boe of proved reserves through an acquisition in Russia.
