Azeri Government Goes After Lukoil

Seems Yukos not the only one with tax problems...

Azeri Government Goes After Lukoil

The Azerbaijani Tax Ministry says LUKoil owes the government $200 million. This stems from the company's sale of ACG, a joint Lukoil-Azeri venture.

According to representatives of LUKoil, the company did not pay tax on profit from the sale of the company's stake in ACG because the production sharing agreement for the project did not make provisions for such payments.

Interestingly, representatives of the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijani Republic agreed with this statement. Along with this, according to representatives of LUKoil, the company did not receive any official claims from the Tax Ministry.

The government still believes payment is due. According to the Azeri Tax Minister, "If the company does not make this payment, I see the prospect of this case in court."
