Ex-Enron Officer's Wife Must Stand Trial

Judge throws out plea deal in a surprise move...

Ex-Enron Officer's Wife Must Stand Trial

Former Enron treasurer Lea Fastow has withdrawn her guilty plea after a US judge threw out a plea deal she had worked out with federal prosecutors.

Lea Fastow is married to former Enron chief financial officer Andrew Fastow who agreed to a 10-year jail term and to cooperate with government prosecutors after his wife's deal was thrashed out.

The mother-of-two had admitted one charge of filing a false tax return in exchange for a five month jail term and five months' home confinement.

US district judge David Hittner rejected that deal at a sentencing hearing Wednesday, and set a June 2 trial date in Brownsville, Texas.
