The hearings comprised the basic report, as well as the presentations by the government representatives for Mangistau Region, KazMunaiTeniz experts and the main contractor for environmental studies ? Mekensak Research Institute. After questions and answers and speeches by public representatives, a resolution was made and a resulting protocol was signed.
The hearings are a procedure, preceding the state environmental expertise and being in compliance with the requirements of international and local environmental laws.
The main task of such an event is to provide public access to important environmental information and involvement of the locals in decision-making process, related to environment protection. The previous round of hearings took place also in Aktau on December 19 last year.
The main target of projected seismic survey is the clarification of geological structure and preparation of structures for exploration drilling. The scope of detailed 2D seismic at Tyub-Karagan is 655 km, at Atashsky - 1057 km (half of them with the line spacing of 2х2 and 3х3 km). The principal portion of search grid at Atashsky (over 1000 km) will be processed in the deepwater zone.
Marine seismic at Tyub-Karagan and Atashsky will be done with the application of the latest technology and in compliance with all environmental norms and standards applied in Kazakhstan. Particularly, the main seismic equipment applied will be the air guns of 790-1500 cubic inches operating volume, providing minimal impact on the Caspian fauna.
