Shell Plans To Save Money Getting Rid of Its Staff

Shell Plans To Save Money Getting Rid of Its Staff

Shell is likely to cut the staff ? 2 800 IT jobs at Shell will be outsourced to India, Malaysia and China, by the end of 2006. Most of these losses are expected in high-cost locations such as US and the UK.
Shell said the cuts could save $850 million per year by sending jobs overseas.

?We are committed to keeping some IT function in the UK, US, Netherlands and Malaysia. We are in the process of talking to staff and it is too early to be definitive about where the jobs will go,? Shell spokeswoman said.

Shell already has a centralized IT outpost in Malaysia which employs 1,000 people.

The move is not related to Royal Dutch/Shell's overstatement of its proven oil and gas reserves that has made the company the target of investigations by the Securities and Exchange Commission, the U.S. Justice Department and European regulators.
