Dutch natural gas company Gasunie, a joint venture of the Dutch government, Royal Dutch/Shell Group and ExxonMobil, has given the final approval for investing 500 mln euro in the construction of a pipeline to the Great Britain.
The 235-km pipeline connecting Balgzand in the Netherlands and Bacton, England is expected to be operational by the end of 2006.
Gasunie will set up a separate company to run the pipeline.
The decision on the pipeline was delayed several months as the company required exemption from certain gas transport regulations. The EU has agreed to allow the UK and the Netherlands to grant Gasunie the required exemptions.
