Northeast Sichuan is the new focus of oil and gas exploration for Sinopec
The Chinese oil major Sinopec has registered another 8,000 sq km in northeast Sichuan, taking its total concession space in the area to over 25,000 sq km.
According to the Sinopec's official publication, Zhongguo Shihua Bao, overall oil and gas resources in the area are estimated to fall between 700 and 900 bln cu m.
Northeast Sichuan is the new focus of oil and gas exploration for Sinopec in the Basin where it is believed China's largest gas supplies are buried. Around 5 bln cubic meters of gas is being extracted annually from northeast Sichuan, and more is expected to be produced as the construction of several local desulfurization plants is completed.
