The office is located in one of the high-profile business centers in northern Tehran, the city's business district. There are mostly local staff working in the office. The main job of the representative office's staff is oversight of the Anaran onshore project in Western Iran.
The project is being implemented jointly by Norway's Norsk Hydro (75%) and LUKOIL Overseas (25%). The contract covering the entry of LUKOIL Overseas into the project was signed on February 14, 2003. The contract entered legal force on September 26, 2003, after approval by the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC).
Three prospects, Azar, Changuleh and Musian, have been identified at the Anaran Block. Projected recoverable oil reserves of the block are estimated at approximately 900 million barrels. The fixed work program covers the drilling of five exploration wells and is planned to last until October 2005.
Currently, the first exploration well is being drilled on the block. The well is about half way to total design depth, which is 4,870 meters. Setting and cementing of a 20" steel casing string has been completed successfully. NIOC is the drilling contractor.
