Shell, Exxon Sell Pipeline Stakes To Netherlands

Shell, Exxon Sell Pipeline Stakes To Netherlands

Anglo-Dutch Royal Dutch/Shell Group and US oil corporation Exxon Mobil are selling their stakes (each of 25 percent) in a pipeline, belonged to Dutch gas company Gasunie, to the Dutch government for 2.78 billion euros.

The government aims to restructure the Dutch gas industry and try to create a free market in natural gas across Europe. The Dutch state will have a 50 percent stake in the retail division, with Shell and ExxonMobil each holding 25 percent.

Shell, in its turn, aimed to revive its credit in the eyes of investors after the scandals concerned with its overvalued reserves.
ExxonMobil expects to have a positive impact on its financial results at that time from the deal.

Under this restructuring of Gasunie Shell and Exxon will get 1.39 billion euros, according to Shell spokesman; as for Gasunie, it will be split into a transportation company and a merchant company.
