Algeria called on OPEC to respect their quotas in anticipation of a weakening of oil demand next year.
"Normally we shouldn't be having any overproduction since we have quotas and we are to abide by these quotas. We would like to see more respect for those quotas," said Algerian Energy Minister Chakib Khelil.
"We know that demand will be strong in the first quarter and that the winter may not be as tough as people expected and we expect lower demand in the second quarter.
"On the other hand, we expect good economic growth next year. Demand is not going to be as high as this year. World demand will fall in the second quarter," Khelil said.
He said OPEC may need to meet again before its next scheduled meeting in March to review the situation.
