Shell Cut Output Again

Royal Dutch/Shell Group's Nigerian subsidiary has to cut oil output in the volatile Niger Delta due to the continuing protests of villagers.

The latest protest has shut off 8,000 barrels per day of oil since Jan. 7. It follows a several invasions by hundreds of villagers in oil platforms in December in the Niger Delta, who were disgusted with the fact that they are not benefiting from the riches pumped from their soil.

Royal Dutch/Shell shut off oil output in Odeama village after the Jan. 7 protest by villagers who demanded the company repair a generator it had provided them with, said a company spokesman, speaking on customary condition of anonymity.
