Lukoil Acquires Two Finnish Energy Firms

Russia's oil and gas giant Lukoil is buying two large Finnish energy companies for about $140 million.

Lukoil, which operates in 25 countries, has agreed to acquire Finnish oil companies Teboil Oy AB and Suomen Petrooli Oy, which together own a 23 percent share of the Scandinavian nation's retail fuel market.

Lukoil, which is not expected to change Teboil's brand names, expects to gain control of the two companies by purchasing the outstanding shares held by Nafta Moskva, a holding company that was created in the Russian privatization wave of the 1990s and is now based in Switzerland.

Such a move will give Lukoil a dependable market for its transportation fuels.
