US oil and gas firm ChevronTexaco Corp. announced it is contributing $600,000 to the Preschool Literacy Project, in an effort to improve literacy among children in Bakersfield.
The program is called Building Blocks to Reading Success, and sponsored by the Bakersfield City School District, California State University, Bakersfield, and Houghton Mifflin.
