Signals On Failed Merge: Rumors Or Not»
He said that conflicting signals about the merge were the fault of Rosneft managers
Russia?s Gazprom export chief Alexander Medvedev said Thursday that Gazprom hoped that the merger with Rosneft could be legally tied up in May.
He also asserted that conflicting signals about the merge were the fault of Rosneft managers.
The tie-up between Gazprom and Rosneft will take the Kremlin a step toward President Vladimir Putin's goal of creating a state energy giant. The deal, which assumes the state will receive a controlling, 51 percent stake in the merged company, also paves the way for the government to make good on its promise to lift the ban on foreigners' access to Gazprom shares.
"I don't want to be too optimistic or pessimistic, but probably it will take a period of between one and two months," Medvedev said. "The principle scheme is already at a rather advanced stage."
