Rosneft Owes Foreign Banks $1bn

Russian oil company Rosneft refused to pay billion-dollar debts of Yuganskneftegaz, which had been acquired by Rosneft last December.

State-owned Rosneft bought Yuganskneftegaz, a key oil production unit of Yukos in a forced state auction. Now it says that any debts should be recovered from Yukos.

Earlier Yukos borrowed $1bn from a group of banks and used main division Yuganskneftegas to guarantee the loan. Ten lenders including Societe Generale, Deutsche Bank and ING are involved in the loan.
